Decorum Review
Decorum 1 review by.
Decorum review. The world building in decorum is largely confined to the prose pages and diagrams while the story pages show a world gradually being brought to startling visual life. From switching styles to represent advanced and primitive perspectives to selective color work a la blacksad or sin city to clean and cold corporate infographics to expressive faces this book is just a joy to look at. There is a triptych of gowns.
Decorum 1 is the opening chapter of a story that was expected to be big and has lived up to those expectations. Huddleston isn t afraid to leave some pages with the apparent illusion that they are still rough around the edges. Decorum 1 is a good not great comic but you re gonna have to work for it.
First we have his retooling of the x men franchise that is going gangbusters over at marvel. The story is disjointed. Decorum is a unique mix of exposition via biotech adds and graphic narratives similar to your normal comic book.
The first issue sets up a lot of plot points and worldbuilding for the long game but it s mike huddleston s eclectic art that captivates the most. Kaaren christopherson s brilliantly observed novel captures the glamour and grit of one of the world s most dazzling cities during one of its most tumultuous eras as seen through the eyes of a singularly captivating heroine. Decorum is very clearly an ambitious series both in its wide storytelling scope but also it in the fact that it is able to dedicate an issue to more conventional narrative beats and still feel like there are a dozen more worlds and stories that hickman and huddleston are just waiting to reveal.
I first read the book while semi drunk and didn t like it at all. However there s just a lot going on in this issue that sets it apart from other comics on the market. Written by jonathan hickman art by mike huddleston published by image comics.
You couldn t have asked for a better beginning. Kaaren christopherson goodreads author 3 43 rating details 184 ratings 49 reviews. Writer jonathan hickman is all over the place these days.
